These are the suggestions we made in in our report to the Harrisonburg High School administration, counselors, and select faculty. To improve the support of mental health at Harrisonburg High School, we suggest:
limit the amount of work teachers can give
hire more mental health professionals
give students days off of school to care for their mental health throughout the year
create a more purposeful and genuine advisory time by building trust within advisory groups
make individual counselor meetings more regular and accessible
initiate more intentional communication to teachers about the impact of students' mental health struggles
