Senior year in the fine arts academy looks a little different than the years prior. Following three years of creating individually and in small groups, all of the seniors begin to work on a collaborative piece of art that we call our capstone. Our capstone is a long term project that we work on continually between the months of September and April. This past September, we took a trip to Richmond to get to know each other a little better and to establish any initial ideas for our capstone that we may have had. From these thoughts, we quickly decided that we wanted to do something revolving around climate change. This idea has since developed into more of a plan. Our project is a movement short film addressing climate change issues through a variety of perspectives. It includes entirely original choreography and music, in addition to being produced using sustainable methods. The focus of our research has been on the vocabulary change from, “If,” to, “When,” hence our title, “If, When.’ This change in wording indicates that the effects of climate change are no longer reversible, but can only be prevented from growing worse. Through our capstone we would like to bring awareness to this critical matter.
