As a student in the Fine Arts Academy, I have experienced many opportunities in challenging my art and pushing myself to collaborate with others. I have used my time in many group projects learning how to work best with others while making a strong and impactful piece of work. Along with this learning process, I have also had many failures that have transformed me into a stronger and more confident artist. The safe atmosphere that the Fine Arts Academy community provides has made these failures more comfortable to admit to, and I have been able to incorporate more risk in what I am creating.
This project will challenge myself and my peers’ communication skills within the group as well as our social skills outside of Harrisonburg High School. We will need to step up to a more professional level, as we have learned the many difficult obstacles that we have already approached in connecting with the real world. As my group has grown into strong artists within a school setting over the years, this project will give us a completely different perspective as our resources will not be given to us. We will have to manage money and communicate with professionals as we have not had much experience doing before in art projects.
My art is unique because I care incredibly about my process before I start my work. When I started creating, I had less confidence and was often unsure about my outcome. As I continued creating, I realized that I became more confident when I research and plan out what I want the outcome to be. As I grew in confidence, I have been more comfortable with risk. My ideas and creativity have sprouted as I try now to make visions that may seem unreasonable come to life. I will want to use my strengths in this project by making sure we our confident in our plan before we are done with our final product. I believe that the research tools that I have learned in the Fine Arts Academy classes will also help create a stronger outcome in our project.
This project will be beneficial for my future because it will teach me how to work in the professional world, as we are able to connect to other artists and collect our resources locally. As someone who wants to become a professional dancer/choreographer, I believe I will reflect on this project in the future because I will need to connect with others and continue using my social skills. I will also become more prepared for upcoming collaborations, as I hope to be a better communicator and teammate.
